Description: This is a calligraphic work used to decorate a room or area used for the Japanese tea ceremony. The work is signed “Shinsei” which may be a Buddhist monk (?) as these calligraphies for tea ceremony spaces are often done by noted Buddhist monks. The inscription is three words from the top down it reads: “Shiki (color/form), Kou (fragrance), Mi (taste/flavor). This is an attractive and eye catching work with a strong Zen Buddhist aesthetic. Measures:Entire scroll—58” in height and 17 1/4” in width.Actual work—27” in height and 13” in width. Excellent condition. It is like new.
