Description: This beautiful bowl is from the ancient Arita kilns (more commonly known as Imari ware) in Japan. The Arita kilns were among the very first porcelain kilns in Japan. The interior illustration depicts a singing bird perched atop a rock among grasses. The interior is also ringed with a band of interchangeable rectangles depicting one or two gentlemen in robes between geometric designs. The exterior also depicts strolling gentlemen interspersed among depictions of landscape. Inside the foot is a spurious Ming dynasty date. These false Chinese dates occasionally appear on Japanese blue & white porcelains. It is in excellent condition. No chips, cracks or repairs.
