Description: For sale is a copy of the book, "Inside Blair House: An Intimate Look at Life Behind the Door of the President's Guest House," by Mary Edith Wilroy (1982). This is a stated First Edition and has 299 pages. This is a fantastic book with great stories about foreign leaders and dignitaries that have come to visit various Presidents from Kennedy to Ford that have stayed at the Blair House, the President's guest house. FDR purchased the house in order for foreign visitors to have their own place to stay when making visits to Washington. Winston Churchill apparently wandered the halls one night at the White House during World War II and bumped into Eleanor Roosevelt and that was partly what precipitated the idea of having a separate place for guests to stay. Written by the former manager of Blair House, from 1961-1975, Mary Wilroy helped to plan 250 state visits, with King Hussein who piloted his own plane to Washington and almost had a crash landing, to King Saud of Saudi Arabia, Benazir Bhutto who visited with her family and many other fascinating accounts of foreign leaders. It also discusses interactions with the Presidents and their wives, including Jackie Kennedy who particularly liked the furnishings of the Blair House. There are two appendices that contain a list of all of the visitors to Blair House, along with a sample of a Fact Sheet that was sent to Blair House in advance of a visit-the one included in the appendix pertains to a visit of the former Shah of Iran and his wife. This will be shipped via USPS Media Mail.
