It is recommended that you use a good cutting oil, but it isn't essential. You will get more life, cleaner holes if you use oil, however. You can use WD-40 for this task if you can't get actual cutting oil (Tap Magic is what I use) These are intended for sheet metal, as the depth of cut is about 1/4", typically used in the electrical construction industry.
