Our Lady of Kazan, also known as the Mother of God of Kazan, is one of the most prominent icons in the Russian Orthodox Church. The icon represents the Blessed Virgin Mary as the protector and patroness of the city of Kazan (fifth largest city in Russia and capital of Tatarstan) and the Holy Protectress of Russia. It is venerated in Eastern Orthodoxy (especially the Russian Orthodox Church) and Catholicism. The icon appears to be printed and is enclosed in a shadowbox-style wood frame with glass. The icon measures approximately 6 3/16” x 7”. The age of the icon is unknown. There is a paper card on the back of the icon with a prayer to Our Lady of Kazan. Estate sale find. A beautiful reproduction of a well-known and inspirational Russian Orthodox icon! The icon appears to be in very good to excellent condition with signs of wear and age, such as scratches, scrapes, abrasions, nicks, indentations, and possibly some discoloration on the wood frame. The prayer card on the back of the icon has minor wrinkles and creases, and is very loosely attached. It’s possible that some of the blemishes are a result of the manufacturing process.
