Numerous b&w photographs, in text and full page. See photos below. These interior images of the book are stock, yet accurately represent the photos in this copy. The dustjacket is shelf worn with tears, chips and light soil. Boards are still square and flat and are in very good condition with moderate wear to the top and bottom of spine. Some light bumps to the top edge of the front board. The text block has moderate sag. Fore edges show even tonal yellowing and small, light stains on the top fore edge. Binding is good and tight. The text is crisp, clean and bright unmarked. The cream colored pages show very little yellowing, if any. No date on title page. Copyright page dated 1941. 133 B&W illustrations of various old Richmond houses throughout the book, in text and full page. The book describes the history of over 100 houses in Richmond, Virginia. The book is arranged chronologically and includes pictures and descriptions of the houses. Scott's research was based on official records, including tax lists, land and deed books, and insurance policies. She also used newspaper articles and family traditions to verify her findings. Some highlights of the book: Preservation Scott's work inspired generations of preservationists and was instrumental in the preservation of Church Hill, Oregon Hill, and Linden Row.
