Your first stop should be the Hopewell Furnace NHS Visitor Center where you will find exhibits tracing the 112 years of furnace operations and the making of iron products. You will learn about Hopewell's community and the formidable skills and teamwork needed to make the iron products. The park's stove collection is also on display, including the original Mark Bird 1772 stove. Restoration began in the 1950s, and by 1952, the furnace, blacksmith shop, water wheel and blast machinery, barn, tenant houses, and cast house had been rebuilt and restored. This included the use of wooden dowels and hand hewn beams. Walter Miller (1910-1999) was one of Williamsburg's premiere photographers. Besides writing at least three books on the subject of photography in Williamsburg, his company grew from a small camera shop on the corner of Prince George St. and North Boundary to a well-respected printing establishment. The company has been variously known as Walter H. Miller, Miller Publishing Company, Town Crier Publishers, and Bicast Publishing Company.
