Description: H. L. Leonard Model 40 Bamboo Fly Rod 8 Foot, Two Piece With Extra Tip 6 Weight This is a 8’0”, 4 oz, two piece with extra tip, 6 wt rod. The rod uses blonde cane, a varnished butternut wood real seat spacer and has red wraps. It includes an original ferrule plug for the first section. It is in beautiful condition. It might have been used, but has the appearance of an unused fly rod. Even the cloth rod bag is clean with the look and feel of new. Both tips full length. Cork Is in beautiful condition. No blemishes to the finish. No dents in the rod tube. According the Classic Fly Rod Forum Leonard built two different versions of the Model 40. Prior to 1972 the model 40 was always called the Ladies version of the Model 50. A lighter 3pc 4wt fine tip version of the 5 wt Model 50. What Simroe did in 1972 was decide there should be three models in both 2 and 3-piece lengths: a light, a medium and a heavy, and that and that a light 7 1/2 foot rod should feel similar to the 7-foot version, but simply longer and for one line size heavier. He chose the 38 series (7 foot - 4wt) as the starting point for 2-piece rods and began numbering up and down from there. 6 1/2 rods become the model 37, Model 39 and on up through the 10 1/2 foot series.
