Grant and recollections of his parents and friends, the underground railroad headed by the Rev. Martin Kundig, founder of Ursuline Convent, and Archbishop John R. Purcell. Additional insight on Grant from an 1869 book, Sunshine and Shadows in New York City, has been added. GENEALOGY BUFFS will find a list of 1888 county officers and businesses. A 1933 look at the history of newspapers in the county; excerpts from The Ohio Guide, a WPA writer's project published in 1940; an article on Ohio's tobacco farming; Henry Howe's rambling account of his Ohio River journey (from the Allen County section of Howe's book), a map showing the 88 Ohio counties and a map of 1805 Ohio are also included in the booklet.
