The first portion of the book was boilerplate, being identical for each history, and contained a history of the state with biographies of the state "power brokers". The remaining part of the history was devoted to the county of interest. The history part of the book contains County Organization Early Settlers Military History Cities, Towns & Villages Rural Churches Jacksonville History Churches - Secret and Benevolent Societies - Soldiers - Pensions Educational Interests Manufactures Jacksonville Churches Jacksonville Government and more The remaining part of the book are portraits and bios of the leading citizens. Morgan County is in central Illinois and the county seat is Jacksonville.
