Description: You are bidding on Historiae Rei Nummariae Veteris Scriptorus, Aliquot Insigniores &c., by Matth Hosti (Matthaus Hostus) (1509-1587), printed Petrum Vander Aa in 1685. 4to, 274, 638 (but actually 538 p.) The first three volumes of what became a larger work in two separately bound volumes, but complete in and of itself. A collection of tracts on numismatics and numerology each with a separate title page, and a portrait of the author, comprising 18 books in total. The three folding plates called for are also present. This is a nice copy bound in original vellum with variation in paper stock and heavy tanning to sections of the text block throughout (see photos) but overall a clean and bright copy, with numerous errors in pagination but textually complete. The collation matches that of the collation of the Le Clert edition of 1682. Petrum Vander was known for printing pirated maps and it is possible this is a pirated edition but all editions of this work are very scarce and expensive. Numerology Mensuration 1695.
