Handmade Silk Area Rug Size- 9’ x 12’

Description: This handmade silk rug is in beautiful condition because it has spent most of its time in cool storage. Because of the muted colors and the knap of a silk rug, it has two color appearances. From one direction colors are predominately muted gray blue with a sheen. From the other perspective, the colors are more distinctly royal to navy blue with a muted rust-colored center medallion with the same recurring rust color in the corners. It is a different color depending on which direction you look at it. This is true of most rugs and particularly true of silk carpets. These colors are currently very popular with interior designers and you will find many new rugs in these colors in carpet stores today. You can see the difference in colors in the photos. Some pictures were taken outside, others were taken inside and hung in a carpet shop which had the capacity to hang a rug of this size. The knots are extremely fine and the fringe confirms that it is hand made. It is clean and ready to use. The pattern is a traditional design found in rugs from this region and was most probably made by local workers after the number of these rugs declined following the revolution in the late 70’s. This is an excellent quality rug. (see close up of the knots). The owner of this rug lived and worked in the Middle East for many years, traveled frequently to to the region and is well acquainted with the value of rugs. This rug was purchased in the USA from an estate in San Francisco. The photos with fold marks were taken right after it was brought out of storage.
