Description: This 1986 Netherlands stereo 2LP box set from L'Oiseau-Lyre's Florilegium Digital Series (417 126-1) features a performance of Handel's Athalia. The oratorio is performed by Joan Sutherland, Emma Kirkby, Aled Jones, James Bowman, and David Thomas, accompanied by the Choir of New College, Oxford (chorus master: Edward Higginbottom) as well as The Academy of Ancient Music, a period-instrument ("on authentic instruments") orchestra conducted by Christopher Hogwood. The box also includes a small-sized, 103-page book with liner notes and lyrics in English, German, and French. The liner notes were written in English by Winton Dean, also translated into German and French. The box's spine contains a small cutout, though it only goes through the outer layer and does not extend to any of its contents (visible in Photo 4). Seen in that same photo is the binding, which is slightly separating (or was possibly taped in the past -- it is hard to tell with only this box available). This is one of many titles from an extensive collection of classical LPs and CDs that we will be listing here. All have been carefully stored for many years, played only on premium equipment, and show little to no wear.
