Here we have a beautiful antique earthenware BOWL (#M 5) made by Griffen-Smith-Hill from Phoenixville, PA in the "Shell & Seaweed" pattern displaying a surround of scallop shells and seaweed designs in colors of pale pink, light green and browns, interior is pink. The bottom is embossed, "*ETRUSCAN*MAJOLICA ~ G S H (initials intertwined) ~ M 5 ~ 86)." [NOTE: Paid decorator's put their mark on an unglazed area (on the exterior bottom) with either a stamp or a 2-digit number...on this piece "86" or "98"...seen on photo #8,9.] It measures approx. 8-1/4" in top diameter x 5" in base diameter x 3-1/4" side high, can hold up to 56 ounces/7 cups...to the brim. It is in good maintained (used/displayed) condition, commensurate with its age, with no cracks and is being offered in "as found" condition currently showing (2) minor glaze nicks on the bowl's top rim (see photos #4,5,6)...all flaws are minor, not obviously noticeable without close examination, nor offensive, and to be expected with age and use. (Also, black marks on the circular bottom are remnants or pieces of earthquake putty.)Came from a private home collection of many years, however the exact age is unknown, pattern discontinued, G-S-H logo indicates production run from 1879-1889. This item weighs approx. 1-3/4 lbs., add 2-1/4 lbs. or so for the packing box and packing material. I combine shipping when safe and practical for all items purchased.
