Description: Welcome (back) to the wonderful world of Lilliput Lane miniatures collecting. Lovely replicas or fantasies on real British cottages and historic buildings. They aren’t making them anymore and they are delicate, so collect now. Made for and exclusively sold by the gift shop at Blenheim Palace, this view of the Grand Bridge in Winter is #212 of a very limited edition. Sculpted by Jack Misselbrook. Blenheim Palace on Oxfordshire was designed in baroque style by Sir John Vanbrugh for the first Duke of Marlborough. As de facto leader of Allied forces in the Low Countries, his victories at battles of Blenheim (1704), of Ramillies (1706), of Oudenarde (1708), and of Malplaquet (1709) ensured his place in history as one of Europe's great generals. Blenheim was a gift from a grateful nation in 1705. The bridge was not finished at this time due ti its expense. When Capability Brown redesigned the grounds in the 1760's the river was dammed and the lower part of the bridge became under water, as we see it today.
