Description: Up for sale an Gorham neoclassical style silverplate tea or hot water kettle on a stand with its original spirit burner. It features an anthemion design in a band around the kettle itself and around the base of the stand which stands on four ball feet. The anthemion design, consisting of a number of radiating petals, was developed by the ancient Greeks from the Egyptian and Asiatic form known as the honeysuckle or lotus palmette. The anthemion was used widely by the Greeks and Romans to embellish various parts of ancient buildings. The tea or hot water kettle on stand measures 11" H x 8.5" from the spout to the handle of the pot x 7.5" D. The base diameter is 6". The kettle is clearly marked on the bottom: The Gorham anchor mark, Gorham Co., 0670 the pattern number, silver soldered (silverplate) and N which is the Gorham date mark for 1884. Very good antique condition with no plate loss and normal signs of age, wear and use with some tarnish. The kettle handle has slight movement and the spirit burner holder has a slight bend to the rim. See photo. More photos available on request.
