Description: Vintage 1963 Indianapolis 500 Complimentary Employee Ticket Stub signed by NASA Mercury & Gemini Astronaut & racing enthusiast Gordon Cooper. From the estate of Art Bagnall, the Racing Director for Bell Helmets and Cragar, and the author of the biography on Roy Richter, the owner of Bell/Cragar. Art was also the first person to wear a Bell Helmet in an auto race. Art went to the Indy 500 for 50 consecutive years from 1958 to 2007. I'll be listing numerous Indy 500 tickets and other vintage racing items from his estate. This ticket has great artwork depicting the 1962 winner, Roger Ward. Gordon Cooper solo piloted the Mercury-Atlas 9 in 1963 just two weeks before signing this ticket stub at the 1963 Indy 500. During that flight, he became the first American to spend an entire day in space and the first to sleep in space. He later flew as the command pilot on the Gemini 5 in 1965, setting records for both of his flights. Gordon Cooper also raced drag boats and tried to race in the 24 hours of Daytona before NASA prevented him from racing for safety concerns. Ticket has right stub still attached and left stub has been cleanly removed at the perforations. Ticket has a bend on the image of Roger Ward's race car, along with typical corner wear and a small hole near the upper edge above the "L" in INTERNATIONAL. The colors are nice and bright. The ticket will be shipped in an archival plastic sleeve with archival acid free paper backing. Ticket measures 5 1/8" wide by 2 1/2" tall. Please see photos as they are part of the description. If additional info or photos are needed, please let me know and I'll respond ASAP. Top Rated eBay seller, buy with confidence. Selling on eBay since 1998. Returns accepted within 30 days of purchase.
