Description: Gladding McBean Franciscan Desert Rose Crescent Salad Plate TV Mark 1958-60 For consideration is this vintage earthenware cresant salad plate manufactured by Gladding McBean in their Franciscan Pottery line of dinnerware and made in the U.S.A. This salad plate is in the Desert Rose pattern which was first manufactured in the early 1940s, and the best-selling American dinnerware pattern in history. Desert Rose made its debut in 1941 and enjoyed the world's longest period of popularity of any dinnerware pattern produced by a single company until it was discontinued in 1984. The Rose Rugosa, a rugged wild rose of poem and song, was a natural design selection. This timeless classic and highly collectible Dessert Rose pattern has embossed fully opened pink roses, golden centers, soft green leaves and thorny vines, all hand painted and enhanced on a cream background. The crescent salad plate measures 8 inches long and 4½ inches wide in the center. It is in excellent vintage condition with no nicks, chips, cracks, repairs, scratches, discoloration or crazing noted. Buyer will pay shipping on a 2 pound box. Thank you for looking! NOTE: First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy chose Franciscan Desert Rose for use in the White House. NOTE: In 1934, Gladding, McBean introduced the Franciscan Pottery line of dinnerware and art ware, named after the Franciscan friars who established missions throughout California in the 18th and 19th centuries. NOTE: Franciscan Backstamp: 1958 to 1960 (note the “®” and “©” are in the top right corner of the backstamp). The ink of the stamp is brown and collectors have nicknamed it the “TV” or “TV screen” mark.“
