With 21 movable parts and loads of detailed accessories, "America's Movable Fighting Man" quickly became a sensation and a new way to play for boys across the nation and around the world. To commemorate the 40th Anniversary of America's greatest toy soldier, GI Joe, Hasbro began releasing large box sets that included a boxed 12 inch action figure from one of the four Armed Services (Action Soldier, Action Marine, Action Pilot and Action Sailor) and related uniform and accessory sets. The 40th packaging was almost identical to the original items. Original plans called for 30 different sets to be released, however, the line was cancelled before completion and not all the sets were manufactured and / or released. This auction is for the "1st in a Series", Combat Attack Set. If you are going to own one Joe, and one carded uniform set, then this is the set for you (or, as a gift for a kid of any age). Any newbie to GI Joes, can re-live the feeling that boys felt when they got their first GI Joe and were able to dress him with different equipment. I received my first Joe in 1965 when I was 11 years old, and I can tell you that there was no greater feeling of joy, than when I played with GI Joe and dressed him in different uniforms. I am not alone, as there are millions of boys who love GI Joe and his many incarnations to this day. There is no better Christmas gift for a pre-teen boy!!! The African-American painted head 12" Action Soldier that you are bidding on, is dressed in a olive drab fatigue uniform, and comes in a reproduction coffin box (marked 40th Anniversary). It includes a plastic olive drab fatigue cap, metal dog tag and Army manual and insignia sheet. The carded Combat Attack set includes the olive drab field jacket, M-1 rifle, bayonet, grenades, cartridge belt and Army Field Manual. Please read: The box has a "GI Joe 2003 - First Production" sticker on it (see pic). This sticker was placed on the 40th Anniversary Sets that were sold directly to attendees at the 2003 GI Joe Convention. I have bought and sold hundreds of the 40th Anniversary sets and this is the only time that I have ever seen this sticker. This set has never been opened and it's contents haven't been handled, or played with, in any way. The contents are 100% mint. The box has minimal shelf wear including a slightly crushed corner, but it displays beautifully.
