There's Nothing Left for You George Jones was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame, he received the National Medal of Arts, the Kennedy Center Honors, and the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, and that names only a few of his many accolades. Jones was born in Saratoga, Texas on September 12, 1931. He was one of eight children raised in a family who shared a love of music. In his early teens George first played music in the street and bars in Beaumont, Texas. By age 19 Jones had been heard singing on the radio, gotten married, had a child, gotten divorced, and joined the Marines. Jones propensity to drink and loose his temper was manifest in varied degrees over time, consequently affecting his career in varied degrees as well. George Jones eventually left his crazier life behind, but by then Jones was immortalized as the fast-livin', hard-drinkin' man who just happened to be the greatest country singer of all-time. Jones charted 168 songs, more than any other recording artist in history. From 1965-1971 Jones recorded 270 songs for Musicor Records, 29 of which were hits. Those Musicor recordings are now part of the Gusto Records catalog owned by Gusto founder, Moe Lytle. On this collection you will enjoy Musicor's 20 Best by George Jones. Included is Jones' top-10 hit from 1957, "Right Won't Touch A Hand, " his #13-hit from 1962, "Open Pit Mine, " and Jones' #28-hit from 1962, "How Wonderful A Poor Man's Life Can Be." George Jones also infuses Ernie Ashworth's unforgettable #1-hit, "Talk Back Trembling Lips, " with Jones' inimitable vocal styling to deliver a version of the giant hit that would make Ashworth proud. George Jones, the man whose vocals helped define country music, died on April 16, 2012 at the age of 81.© DirectToU LLC. All Rights Reserved.
