The lettering is beautiful, authentic and characterful, with bold capital to 'Wee', and some charming flourishes and serifs to the ends of many other letters.It dates to around 1760/70 and bears a not-quite-readable maker's mark alongside the inscription. It's a wonderful, mid-slim shallow D-shaped band at 2.2 mm wide, shows some fabulous patina that gives history and authenticity, and is just gorgeous on the finger, a real sleeper piece that looks quite unassuming at first glance.Posy rings became a popular choice for wedding rings during the mid-17th century, when the Puritan culture of Oliver Cromwell's Commonwealth discouraged the wearing of ostentatious jewellery.It's a size 7.5 and though it could be resized a little, I don't recommend it as there will be loss to the patina.
