Description: General Electric quite notably made these small, modular phono preamps for their early, monster sized HiFi receivers of the 1940's -- the earliest days of true HiFi -- often paired with early Variable Reluctance carts and FM reception. Often part of very hifi, all GE designed "build ins" (custom in wall systems), as well as large console and component systems. These proved to be very good sounding(thanks to the large, famously good sounding Octal tubes) -- later GE sold these as add-on accessories for non-GE systems, as well as a standalone version with it's own power transformer.. This is the model SPX-001, which takes power from your tube receiver or amplifier. You can also use any other external supply of proper voltages. Untested, for restoration. Needs allot of dusting, seems like it will clean up nicely. Removed from a mid 1940's General Electric wide range system. Has nice long, cloth leads for interface to amplifier and the turntable.
