Gene Ewing was a Manufacturer in Los Angeles in the 70's, 80's and 90's. I haven't been able to really pinpoint this piece. But I think its early. The fabric is a soft chambray not a denim. It's very light weight. It doesn't have a neck label or size tag but the inside waist elastic and the green outside thigh tag make up for that. The stitching also looks early, see picture. An overcast stitch on the seam edges not serged. Then there's The Style.... The Cut ( Full ), that Mandarin Mao Collar, the full zipper and Pockets!! The legs are a shorter length, not sure if they were shortened . I turned up a narrow cuff and it's cute too. But I think the important feature is the puckered waist. Gene tells the story that She got a shipment of damaged fabric and decided to "pucker" it with elastic thread on the back to hide the damage and made Jackets that became a signature style for them and sold for years. That this piece has the puckering makes it better. This just has so many possibilities.
