Cypraea Moneta satura #36 20.3mm, Linnaeus 1758, DWARF BEAUTY from Philippines. Found at low tide on reef flat, Calituban Island, Philippines, 2020. You know, I think the money cowrie would have been one of the most sought after shells in the world, if not for the fact that it is so common. And I have a rather unusual background when it comes to the moneta---my earliest memory of the shell was as a ten year old boy on Kwajalein, a small Island in the middle of the Pacific. Part of the Marshall Islands, Kwaj was only 2 1/2 miles long and a half mile wide. One side of the island was protected from the raging ocean by a flat barrier reef, the other side was a smooth, flat lagoon, so flat in fact, the only surfing one could get was around 5pm. That's when the ferry went by. That's right, 3 waves a day, that was it.. Anyhow, I remember watching a Marshallese man collecting monetas on the barrier reef side during a low tide, and he was picking up so many, he was using a pillow case as a collecting bag!. In Hawaii though, monetas are actually rather rare---I think I found less than a dozen in the decades I lived there, and I was considered lucky to have done that! In fact, if you managed to find one, you got written up in the recent finds part of the Hawaiian Shell News and you could attend shell club meetings with a humble, little, I've got you beat! smile until somebody else found one too... that's shell collecting!. Well, This baby here is simply spectacular---a bright yellow color, a glossy dorsum, and a smooth, vivid mouth, this little GEM is all about why folks go shell collecting, and of course, this beauty would look terrific sitting on your shelf! The perfect shell for a first-class collection. As for normal disclaimers, we do the best we can with photos, but color is tricky, especially since cell phone cameras automatically lean towards flesh-tone coloring, (that's why so many of the photos of shells on eBay show up with more orange than is really there, the camera changes the color, and damm if I can figure out how to stop that from happening, but I try, honest! As for feedback, as you know, sellers live and die by the feedback you leaved, (please leave fives!) so if you have a problem, just let me know! After all, I'm retired, and all messages go directly to my phone, so unless I'm out shell collecting I will get back to you pronto-like!Shell collecting! Now there's a phrase that brings smiles to your eyes, doesn't it!Anyhow, if you have read this far, you have my apologies and best wishes from those of us at IslandShells323.
