The auxiliary headshell weights can be found in many of the classic Garrard Lab 80 Type A and A70 headshells. Purpose of the weight: 1. If the tonearm does not zero out, because the cartridge is too light, the weight compensates for that. 2. The changer cycle trip may require a certain amount of tonearm inertia, which a very light cartridge/ low tracking weight may not provide. 3. If you use multiple headshells, you can e.g. add 3 or 6 grams to a 78 rpm headshell, so that you do not have to re-balance the tonearm when you are changing headshells.
