Born in London in 1837, Frederick Hollyer became fascinated with photography at an early age. He was greatly influenced by the pre-Raphaelites and in 1860 he began to practice photography, becoming a fellow of the Royal Photographic Society in 1865. In 1870 he opened his studio at 9 Pembroke Square where he photographed many well known artists and writers as well as making reproductions of famous paintings, often using the platinum process in which he became a master. In 1893 he became a member of the Linked Ring. print condition is very good for the age. Came from the collection of the famed Providence Art Club. as the pictures show, the paper is brittle and has a broken piece at the top which will be easily hidden by matting for framing. Will ship flat, unframed. The original wooden period frame may be available for this print if interested.
