In 1992, he moved to Mallorca, Spain, and a year later, he relocated to the Spanish capital, where he currently resides. Bernal was the founder of the well-known silkscreen workshop "Rene Portocarrero" in Havana. This workshop saw his first silkscreens as well as prints from numerous artists. He was able to print his graduation thesis from the Higher Institute of Art, the artist book "Towards the Hurricane," which earned him the title of "honorary member." Bernal maintained a close relationship with the Institute of Meteorology (Cuba), which provided him with a lot of graphic information on meteorological themes. In 1993, Bernal began working as the director of the Graphic Series workshop in Madrid, and in 1994, with minimal resources, he founded his own workshop in the Spanish capital, called Bernal Estampa Artística S.L.
