Description: FRAMED PURPLE HEART STAMP This stamp was issued on May 30, 2003 in Mount Vernon, Virginia. The Purple Heart is the oldest military decoration in the world that is still in use. Moreover, it is the first award available to the lower ranks. General George Washington ordered the establishment of a badge of distinction for meritorious action on August 7, 1782. He wrote, "The road to glory in a patriot army is thus open to all." A reprint of this design appeared later in the year. It is on black mat in small blue oval frame (approximate size is 2 1/2 X 3 1/2 inches). Frame comes with stand. The Stamp is UNUSED U.S. POSTAGE STAMP.
