Description: Framed original Last Works of Matisse lithograph; Lierre (Ivy). One of an edition of 2000 from Dernieres Oeuvres de Matisse (Last Works of Matisse) 1950-54, published by Mourlot Freres (VERVE 35-6) in 1958. The lithograph is 25 x 33.8cm, double mounted and in a black frame 43 x 53.5cm. To avoid breakage in transit I will send either with perspex unglazed, but it will be easy to put in a 20" x 16" piece of glass.In excellent unfoxed and unfaded condition, especially for a lithograph produced over 65 years ago. PLEASE BE CLEAR THAT THIS IS NOT A REPRODUCTION, BUT A 65-YEAR OLD LITHOGRAPH.I bought 2 copies of the Last Works book in 2002, prior to the Matisse and Picasso exhibition which was held in London (Tate gallery), Paris (Pompidou Centre) and New York (Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), and before the prices increased hugely. Many of the lithographs have been stored away from the light for over 2 decades, but I have decided now to dispose some of the remaining lithographs.As they were bought at a time when prices were much less, I am happy for them to go to a good home where they will be appreciated, but at a reasonable price. Henri Matisse (1869 (Le Cateau-Cabresis, France) - 1954 (Nice, France))Draughtsman, printmaker, and sculptor. One of the undisputed masters of 20th century art, his use of vibrant colour in the early 20th century led to him being labelled a Fauve (Wild Beast). In around 1904 Matisse met Picasso, and the 2 were both lifelong friends and also rivals.Towards the end of his life, and with his ability to paint affected by arthritis, he started, with the aid of assistants to produce cut-paper cutouts, often on a large scale.With the aid of assistants he set about creating cut paper collages, often on a large scale, called gouaches découpés. These were subsequently reproduced lithographically after his death in "The Last Works of Matisse", published by Mourlot in 1958.
