THE ENGINE STAND IS ALSO NOT INCLUDED HERE. This listing is for one Vintage Original 1963 FOX 40 BB Rat Race Special Glow Plug Engine without the " RARE GOLDEN RAT FINISH " for FF/CL Model Airplanes. In the Model Airplane News review they used a wood prop 11 x 5 & recorded 12,500, 11 x 3 at 14,700, 10 x 3 1/2 at 16,100. This is a stroked 35 & has the wide gap between the head & piston cylinder. It uses the Blue Ribbon 35X case but incorporates Front Needle Bearings & Rear Ball Bearings. This Engine has NO GOLDEN RAT FINISH LEFT ON IT, IT ONLY HAS THE ORIGINAL CHROME BASE LAYER & NO DECAL/STICKER COVERING UP THE 35 & stating BB 40. This engine rotates smoothly with excellent compression. The crankshaft area that can be seen from the front bearing out has a bright " Copper Finish " to it which I found to be quite unusual as well probably helps with the Chrome Plating. This engine has been modified & has custom machine work done to the Exhaust & Intake Manifold. There are 2-Pinholes one on each side of the Intake Manifold Stack which helps to Equalize & Stabilize the Intake Vacuum Volumetric Pressure. The Exhaust Manifold has been Cut Through on both the Left & Right Sides with a Grooved Line running along the Top & Bottom Inside of the Exhaust Manifold joining the 2-Cuts of the Left & Right Sides for the addition of a Exhaust Throttle Slide Vave for R/C or Control Line Carrier Events also known as Vari-Speed Control (see last photo for advertisement center right area). The Left & Right Side Cuts are the only ones that Penetrate Completely Through the Exhaust Manifold. The 2 pinholes in the Intake Manifold could probably be added by just about any competent Model Enthusiast however the Exhaust Work shown here probably takes Special Tooling/Machine Work. I do not know if this service was provided by FOX at an additional cost or a private mail in Machine Shop say like Clarence Lee (however his name would probably be stamped somewhere on the engine block) would perform the work. I have noticed both types of modifications performed on other FOX engines available for sale on Ebay in the past so its not unusual to find but its not that common either. The Engine also has a Pressure Fitting installed in the Rear Cover. This is by far hands down one very tough to find Fox engine for the Hardcore Collector. This would be an Excellent choice for the Collectors Display Cabinet or the Flyer with a current Rat Race build project.
