Fischer Nuremberg, Germany circa 1922-1924. The toy dimensions are 7” at the highest point, 5” long & 3” wide. Copyright dated 1922 Fontaine Fox, the comic strip artist who created the characters who live in Toonerville & ride the eponymous trolley. The Skipper stands in front & works the tiller to steer the trolley. When wound the trolley rolls forward & the eccentric wheels with offset axle cause the toy to wobble & shake. The toy works very well & the motor is strong. The toy is well marked on the sides with copyright date & on the underside with patent & registration numbers & Made in Germany. The toy is in excellent condition with very little evidence of play wear. There is a light scratch thru the letter O in Trolley & over the letter Y on 1 side. The toy colors are excellent. The original box top has a broken corner & all the corners have original staples in place. The box bottom is a handmade copy using card stock very similar to the original. Staples were used to connect the corners. 1 of the 8 staples is missing & 1 is disconnected. The printed box label is red on an off white background. The label has good red color & is not faded. The label has the 1922 Fontaine Fox copyright & names the Geo. Borgfeldt company as the sole licensee. Box is also marked Made in Germany & Pat. Applied For.
