Description: Additional Information from InnerSleeve Product Description Audio Mixer: Tim O'Heir. Recording information: Fort Apache. After struggling in critical underground circles for ages with his fantastic guitar rock trio Sebadoh, it took this single from his side project Folk Implosion to give Lou Barlow his first bona fide pop hit. Conceived for the soundtrack to the controversial indie film Kids, "Natural One," by Barlow and his cohort Jon Davis, is a drum-driven synthesized pop confection. Filled with strange sounds and the expected amount of semi-lo-fi production, it's simple, catchy, and effective. No one would have predicted that this song would break this band into constant rotation, but it really is a great track that helped out some terrifically underrated musicians. On the other hand, the B-side, "Cabride," is pretty unnecessary, but anyone familiar with Barlow is also familiar with his hit-or-miss approach. The track is an instrumental with loose horns and a jazzy drumbeat, and it's really pretty silly, albeit briefly entertaining. Nevertheless, this single represents the bizarre power of popular radio, and the obvious point that Barlow is a fantastic songwriter. ~ Peter J.
