Pastor of the brick Presbyterian Church, New York. This book was published by Baker and Scribner, New York. It contains early thoughts and helps for ministers and pastors, regarding how to develop and exercise their ministry in the church pulpit. You see a lot of reprints being acquired in private libraries, but few of these in original condition, from the First Edition in 1848. Condition: This 175 year old book remains in acceptable plus condition, and remains very usable and readable. There does not appear to be an odor, despite some staining from some contact with moisture many years ago. See pictures. There is some yellow staining along the top, and is more pronounced in the beginning pages, but dissipates on pages located later in the book. Binding is fully intact, and covers are not loose. Original brown embossed cloth, gilt lettering on the spine. A few of the signatures (page groupings) are a little loose, but still included and still intact. Outer wrap of spine at top has pulled loose for about an inch, as seen in the photo. Some chips missing along the spine edge and edge of covers, and a red arch mark appears on the front cover. Author’s portrait next to title page, missing the tissue paper separator. Some foxing. The book shows age, but is very readable.
