Description: Species: Native Silver Locality: Kongsberg, Kongsberg silver mining district, Buskerud, Norway Dimension: 6.8 x 2.5 x 2 cm Weight: 84 grams What serious mineral collector hasn't wanted a silver specimen from Kongsberg?? Just the mention of this most famous and classic of all silver localities should get any mineral connoisseur excited. Good silver specimens from this locality are usually priced in the 4 figures and up, however, when they are available (which is not very often), so it is in that spirit that I am very excited to be offering an AFFORDABLE group of silver specimens from this mega classic European locality! These are a combination of old-time historic specimens as well as recently-collected pieces discovered by young 'diggers' armed with metal detectors who are intrepidly entering some of these ancient (and often dangerous!) mines. Some of my favorite specimens are what I would call the 'ore specimens', like this fine end-cut piece: they show very abundant native silver in a simple matrix of calcite and minor quartz, and a little matrix rock here and there. "Simple" stuff, but beautiful and historic nonethless, and a rare chance to acquire a Kongsberg silver specimen with some real "heft" for a price that doesn't break the bank!
