Description: Fine restrike print by Kathe Kollwitz (1867-1945).This print is an etching and aquatint. It is printed on a loose sheet of beautiful cream wove paper which measures 16 1/2" by 11 3/4". The impression measures 11 1/2" by 6 1/2". In it's wood frame measures 17 1/4" by 12 3/8".Stamped deeply lower right in the impression: V D BECKE MUENCHEN 22 (1963-1972).Entitled "Der Trauernde" or "The Mourner", it depicts a single hunched man mourning at a funeral for social hero Karl Liebknecht. This single figure was originally the last figure on the left from the larger Kollwitz etching of 5 mourners before she intentionally cut that plate to single out this one mourner for this focused etching. This single mourner etching by Kollwitz is one of her most well known images. The solitary mourner. This licensed restrike is a superbly executed art work.Again, as you can see in the photos, it is printed on a loose sheet and has been nicely rematted and in this wood frame. The loose sheet of wove paper has superficial damage to the four corners around the etching impression. There are also 2 pieces of tape to the top of the paper on back.I took this framed etching apart in order to illustrate what you are buying. When buying a print of this quality it is important to know it is not cut, glued down, etc. With these photos, you see what you are buying.Thank you.
