Description: FANTASTIC UNIVERSE February 1960. Edited by Hans Stefan Santesson. FU had been a reliable 2nd-tier digest since 1953. Late in 1959, as the very last SF pulp (SCIENCE FICTION QUARTERLY) was folding. the magazine suddenly bucked the trend and converted to a trimmed pulp format with illustrations. (It had not been illustrated before.) It was a handsome magazine but it didn't sell. I think there were five such issues. This is the next to last. One of the benefits of the new format was several very nice full page VIRGIL FINLAY illustrations. Stories by RANDALL GARRETT (two of them, one as by "David Gordon"), J.T. MCINTOSH, HOWARD FAST. Some interesting non-fiction including Ivan Sanderson on the Abominable Snowman and SAM MOSKOWITZ with an illustrated piece on the space-travel fiction of the 1890s. Always happy to combine postage on multiple wins. Note that the foreign postage prices are a guess. If they prove too high, I will refund the difference.
