Description: Eugen Jettel Gouache Watercolor Pastoral Landscape Austrian 1880s-90s Signed. Beautiful landscape in the Barbizon/impressionist style by noted Austrian painter Eugen Jettel Signed lower left “JETTEL” Very similar in composition, style, location and theme to other works by him. He was a founding member of the Austrian secessionist movement in the early 1900s, but prior to that had worked in Holland in France with a number of other ex-patriate Austrian and German painters. Based on the style of the building, and the woman’s dress, I would say this painting depicts a scene in Holland. Nice, loose, confident brushstrokes along with charcoal/pencil really makes the scene pop. I have not removed from the frame. The prior owner had this reframed in the recent past. Therefore, I have not examined the back of the artist board/paper for further information. Work measures approximately 22 1/2 x 16 (in) or 57 x 41 (cm) Condition appears to be pretty nice overall.
