Classical harp virtuoso born in the 20th centuryMarisa Robles, born in 1937, is a Spanish harpist, known in the classical music world as one of the most famous players of the second half of the 20th century.A precocious talent, she studied with Luisa Menarges from an early age, making her debut at only 9 years old, and graduated from the Conservatory of Madrid in 1953 at the age of 16.The following year he made his concert debut in Madrid performing Mozart's Concerto for Flute and Harp with Jean-Pierre Rampal.In 1960, he became a British citizen and lived there permanently.Based in England, he has toured the world, introducing the charm of the harp instrument to new audiences around the world. Three solo albums were recorded between 1966 and 1967.The last three solo pieces on this disc, by Eberl, Handel, and Beethoven, were included in the 1967 “Variations on the Harp” album. The three concertos, the main focus of this disc, feature the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields, a chamber music ensemble that dominated the scene at the time.The disc covers the major harp concertos composed during the last 80 years, from the Baroque period to the early Romantic period.
