Description: This is a rare and highly sought-after hardcover edition of "To Have and Have Not" by Ernest Hemingway, published by Grosset & Dunlap in 1937. FIRST EDITION by Charles Scribbner & Sons. Please Note: Missing Scribner's "A" on title page. Basis for the rather good Hollywood adaptation from 1944 which was directed by Howard Hawks and starred Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall. Interestingly, the screen play was adapted by none other than William Faulkner. 8.25" x 5.75", with 262 numbered pages. Book is clean and tight. Binding: Sound and tight Hard Cover: Black Linen with embossed gold and green printing on spine. Very clean, corners sharp. No exterior damage. Interior cover(s) have some slight discoloration (please see photos) Original Dust Jacket: Rubbing and wear with some chips and short tears. A still acceptable example considering that the jacket has been increasingly uncommon. Original $2.50 price is present on the front flap. Pages: Deckled right side with tiny flocking on very edge. Pages are slightly yellowed with age. One 1/4 spot pgs 120/121 (see photo) The book follows Harry Morgan, a fishing boat captain out of Key West, Florida. To Have and Have Not was Hemingway's second novel set in the United States, after The Torrents of Spring. The novel is a classic in literature and fiction, and its author is widely regarded as one of the greatest writers of the 20th century. Shipped with additional insurance.
