Description: The late artist Ernest (Ernie) Franklin was born on the Navajo reservation during World War II and spoke only Navajo until he was sent to boarding school. He also fought in the Vietnam War. He was largely a self-taught artist who met Ernie Bulow, publisher and author, in high school and Bulow acted as Franklin's mentor and agent, selling his paintings and entering him in competitions for many years. Best known for his extensive illustrations for the late Tony Hillerman and his Navajo Tribal Police mystery novels, Franklin's original art was often added to Hillerman's books , making they even more collectible. These two framed pieces of original watercolors, each painted and signed by the late Ernest Franklin. The small piece of art is 5 1/2x7 1/2. The larger piece is 19 3/4x15. Both are matted and framed in larger frames. **2 more pieces of Franklins art will be up for sale soon.** **If interested in Tony Hillerman Books and autographed books send me a message as the collection is getting ready to be sold as well.
