French painter, etcher and lithographic artist, Hedouin studied art under Paul Delaroche at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts, Paris. Jean Antoine Watteau 1684–1721, French; born in Valenciennes, Watteau went to Paris and worked with Claude Gillot on sets for the theater, still poor and unknown, he was taken in by Claude Audran. This etching is bright and unfaded, with excellent detail in black ink, the image printed on a chine colle applique on early wove paper sheet measuring approximately 21 cm x 28 cm (8 x 11 ins.) Unmounted and unframed, the condition of the image and the sheet is good with handling marks and soiling condusive with age.
