Description: DESCRIPTION: I don’t think that identified metal lunch boxes get much older than this. This formed tin box (surely made by a tinsmith as any seams are sealed with solder) measures about 7 ½" x 5" x 2 ½". The background is what I believe is called a japanned finish and some ornamental decoration and the word "LUNCH" have been stenciled on in a gold colored paint. There is some light scattered rust seen on the inside, but it is fairly minimal. There is no rust seen on the outside. There is no denting. The top and bottom each have an interesting stepped design to the edges. Hinge and catch are fine. I would think this was more likely used by a factory worker reather than a school student. But I don’t know for sure. The outside has a minimal amount of scattered wear. *** I would guess this to date to the 1870's *** TERMS: eBay now charges sales tax for many states on their own which is beyond my control.
