Early Printing Folio Aristotle’s History of Animals Latin Greek Illustrated

Description: Aristotle’s “History of Animals” was considered an important biological text for over 2000 years. it contains many accurate, eye-witness observations. It is comprised of a variety of observations, many of which were corroborated by scientific methods in the 18th and 19th centuries. This particular edition offers the interpretations of humanist philosopher scholar Julius Caesar Scaliger along with the translations and commentary of Philip Maussac, a Greek scholar of the same era. This is a particularly lovely edition: strong binding of leather with a banded spine, folio sized with classic red and black title page that tells the history of this one; several names written at various points (please see photos). There is some marginalia, written in Latin, and some foxing. Age appropriate paper discoloration. Chips to the spine. Great engravings: one on the title page, several at heads of chapters and amazing capitals in a variety of styles throughout the book.
