Description: Elves and pixies of all types have long been a favorite in Japanese figurines. This one is draped on the back of a butterfly - I've seen this idea in several variations, but the ones most similar to this one were Occupied Japan pieces, so I'm guessing it comes from shortly after the occupation ended in 1952. There is a "Made in Japan" and a mark with the initials GUC. There are some places where the glaze has worn off revealing the white surface below - notably on the back of the blue shorts, the shoes, the edges of the wings, and some places where's there's stray spots of dark glaze as on the cap. Despite these problems, this is an exceptionally charming figurine! It measures 5 inches across at the top of the wings, 4 inches from the tuft of hair on the forehead of the elf to the tips of the wings, and about 2 3/4 inches high at the tip of the cap.
