Description: Vintage paperback copy of The Great Impersonation, by E. Phillips Oppenheim (Pocket Books, 1944; 10th printing). Though largely unknown today, The Great Impersonation was one of the most popular novels of the early 20th century, selling more than 1 million copies in 1920 alone. The book tells the story of a German man who plans to murder his English doppelgänger and take over his life in order to spy on the English government. The reader spends the whole of the book not knowing whether the main character is really the German man or the English man. The novel was so popular that it was adapted to film three times in 21 years, first as a silent movie in 1921, and again in 1935 and 1942 (the last one starring Ralph Bellamy in the lead role). This book is in very good condition, with a tight spine and no rips, tears, marks, or other major signs of wear.
