Description: Beyond the Clouds also known as Al di là delle nuvole starring Chiara Caselli, Fanny Ardant, Ines Sastre, Irene Jacob, Jean Reno, Jeanne Moreau, John Malkovich, Kim Rossi-Stuart, Marcello Mastroianni, Peter Weller, Sophie Marceau, Vincent Perez and directed by Michelangelo Antonioni and Wim Wenders. The Story: This film consists of four short tales, linked together by a story filmed by Wim Wenders. The settings are Ferrara, Portofino, Aix en Provence and Paris. Each story, always with a woman as its central theme, invites the viewer to an inner travel, as Antonioni says "towards the true image of that absolute and mysterious reality that nobody will ever see". Comments: Think of this film as a stroll through an art gallery, with a talented artist as your guide - in this case, the artist is 86-year old Michelangelo Antonioni. Antonioni's award-winning film career has spanned more than half a century. The artistry displayed in this film reminds one of an expression you sometimes hear when witnessing a master artist or athlete in action:"they make it seem easy". Beyond The Clouds is an elegant work of art. The overall softness of the light used throughout this film makes you want to touch the screen. The autumnal mood conjured up by the images could only been achieved by a director who has seen many summers of experience... an old man who has not lost a discerning eye. Few movies capture and use the softness of light and seasonal moods with such ravishing effect. The dialogue doesn't really matter... there is not much of it anyway. Some films exist just as visual experiences... this is one of them. Is there a story? Yes, but Antonioni's film is far beyond that... beyond the clouds. Per the label, the film has 104 minute running time, but it is actually closer to 110 minutes. The film is presented in widescreen 1.66:1 format with removable English subtitles. The short story segments within the film are presented variously in Italian, French and English - the language for a given story segment is not optional.
