JIANGHUA SUJianghua Su was born in 1956 in Fenghuang City, Hunan Province, China. Fenghuang is known as "Home Town of Artists". It is a place where Han, Miao and Tujia peoples live and mingle together. The three different cultures of these three different peoples cast strong influence upon Jianghua's early art life. Jianghua graduated from Hunan Provincial Professional Institute of Fine Arts in 1977. The next year he entered the Fine Art Department of Central Institute of Minority Nationalities, Beijing, where he was majoring in oil painting. He obtained his B.A. degree in 1982. Early on Jianghua's paintings were strongly affected by such masters as Picasso, Miro, Kandinsky and Klee. He soon developed his own style. Through his study of abstractionism, he found that there is a bridge between the Chinese ancient primitive folk arts and the contemporary arts. This insight greatly helped him in becoming a successful artist. Jianghua ingeniously combines the traditional Chinese line drawing technique and the methods of western abstractionism and realism painting together. He concerts lines, colors, transformed human figures and abstract philosophical symbols into fascinating images. Art work created by Jianghua release unrestrained force, and rich eternal harmonious beauty. His unique outstanding art style has drawn wide appreciation as witnessed by his many exhibitions in both China and the United States.
