The silk used to weave the rug was obtained locally. Silkworms were raised on a berry tree in the backyard of a village house in the north of Persia. The silk is cruelty-free and produced without harming the silkworms. Locals thread the silk and color the hand-spun silk with all-natural dyes such as walnut skin and pomegranate skin. The whole silk processing steps are entirely handcrafted by members of a local family in a village in the north of Persia.
