Description: This beautiful 1:12 scale Victorian female doll from the Victorian Trading Company is gorgeous in many ways. She is wearing a Walking Dress AKA a Visiting Dress. The doll is made of porcelain, stands at 6 inches tall and comes with a stand. She has partial movable limbs meaning: her head moves side to side , her arms move above the elbow and her legs bend right at the knee so she can sit once positioned. She is dressed in a beautiful light plum silk gown trimmed and sewn in shades of light to medium to dark plums, with 4 rows of ruffles at the front bottom. This is why I folded back the layers of ruffling so you can see the amount of stitching done on the underside to acquire the beautifully finished bottom of this gown. The collar of this gown is not gathered and is made of white flat lace and trimmed with dark plum silk ribbon that is gathered. In the center is a silk ribbon rose with a silk ombré mossy green “leaf”. The sleeves are tightly fitted to the elbow and flare out in a bell shape with lace extending in the same manner beyond the silk fabric. A silk ombré rose flower and silk mossy green leaf is sewn in place where the tight sleeve meets the start of the bell. There is an “over apron”, the same fabric as the gown, that follows around the entire gown. Each side of the apron indents and the middle front and middle back each have a point. It is neatly gathered in dark plum silk ribbon. The waist is now cinched in ombré mossy green silk green ribbon and tied neatly at the back in a pretty bow. The train is fairly simple and begins high up at the sides of the gown and is trimmed in the same lace used throughout as well as the gathered dark plum silk ribbon. There are 2 silk ribbon roses on each side where the train is linked to the gown and there are several more silk ombré ribbon roses in the same color family as used throughout and found in abundance at the bottom front of this stunning gown where the 4 rows of ruffles are gathered. Her headband is made of silk ombré ribbon flowers in shades of plums and mossy green to define as leafs. She carries a closed parasol matching her gown with white lace as found in the gown. It gently comes off if you choose by carefully taking it off and on by the small silk ribbon “handle”. She is wearing white cotton matching pantaloons and a petticoat both trimmed in white lace. Her black shoes are painted with a coat of high gloss black paint. Her complexion is fair, her eyes, dark blue and her red hair is coiffed in long curls. She also is wearing a necklace that appears to be made of opalescent beads in a color that suits her gown and all the trimmings. I’ve no idea as to what is or isn’t hand made in this gown but as a seamstress for 60 years, as well as a miniaturist for over 50 years, I can’t see how some of this work could be done by a machine; case in point, the silk ribbon roses, attaching a sleeve so neatly, and so much more. I’ve written a whole lot here and I’m confident in saying it cannot all be done by machine. I guess both can be true. This doll is a stunning piece. If you’ve got questions please ask and I’ll be happy to help. Thanks for looking!
