Description: in good condition! some signs of wear and scratches on the bottom side but it’s not big deal 13.5” Tall Disneyland Resort – Disney’s California Adventure (DCA) Park Halloween Time: ‘Golden Screams’ Theater Promotional “Best Scream” Trophy Statue – Chernabog “Chernie” Award release Date: September 29, 2006 Hand-painted resin Chernabog “Chernie” trophy statue, inspired by his appearance in Walt Disney’s Fantasia (1940) animated film, and created as a promotional “Best Scream” Award giveaway for the ‘Golden Screams’ Disney Villains show overlay which was located in a replica of San Francisco’s Palace of Fine Arts within The Bay Area of Disney’s California Adventure (DCA) Park, Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, CA during ‘Halloween Time’ 2006 & 2007. Inspired by the appearance of iconic award statues and trophies, Chernabog is depicted holding a stoic pose while grasping a Labrys (double-sided axe), and emerges from Bald Mountain, atop a round base with a sculpted “Best Scream – Golden Screams Award Ceremony” nameplate at the front, and an imprinted Disneyland Resort logo at the back. This Chernabog design was also featured on all of the signage and banners installed at the venue during this seasonal overlay (visit the ‘Additional Resources’ tab below for photos and information). Emcee Upton O’Good hosts ‘Golden Screams’ – a 22 minute show where various Villains clips from classic Disney animated films are shown, before he asks the Magic Mirror to find the “Fiercest Villain of Them All”. As Upton selects each nominee, a clip is shown featuring that Villain’s scream. The audience votes for their “Fiercest Villain of Them All” by screaming as the Villain’s image is featured on the screen. In 2006, the nominees were Queen of Hearts (Alice in Wonderland), Captain Hook (Peter Pan), Stromboli (Pinocchio), Madame Medusa (The Sword in the Stone), Evil Queen as Old Hag (Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs), and Maleficent (Sleeping Beauty). In 2007, the nominees were Shan Yu (Mulan), Clayton (Tarzan), Claude Frollo (The Hunchback of Notre Dame), Ursula (The Little Mermaid), Hades (Hercules), and Gaston (Beauty and the Beast). When the scream vote is done, Upton receives a miniature hand-held Magic Mirror to reveal which audience member (usually a child) had the loudest scream. Once selected, they must scream for the rest of the audience and take the Honorary Villains’ Oath, after which they are presented with a “Chernie” award trophy statue, and Upton concludes the show.
